Leading spread betting company City Index has just launched its own proprietary iPhone app, designed to allow new and existing traders access to their spread betting accounts remotely via their smartphone handsets.
Available for download from the Apple AppStore, the app opens up access to the full City Index spread betting platform in a specifically optimised, tailored format, making trading on the move a reality for City Index customers.
While the move is thought to be a step in the right direction for City Index, it is by no means the first to enter the iPhone market, with countless other spread betting and CFD brokers opening up their platforms to iPhone and smartphone users, and shaping the direction of the spread betting and trading markets in the process.
The spread betting industry has been renowned for its innovative approach over its short 40 year history, and the trend towards mobile dealing is widely seen as another technological change being embraced by the industry. Whereas phone trading was initially the modus operandi of spread traders before the Internet, the market has now turned full circle to allow traders access to the full extent of their trading account from the palm of their hands – a major boost to convenience and trading mobility.
We welcome the steps taken by City Index to join the so-called ‘App Race’, and embracing new technologies like iPhone-specific platforms can be no bad thing. For traders old and new, the ability to deal direct from your handset is both an innovation in technology and a likely boon for brokers, who will no doubt benefit from increased and prolonged trading activity as a result of the heightened convenience trading apps deliver.
City Index is one of the UK’s leading spread betting companies, and one of the original pioneers of the spread betting format in the 1970s. Its new iPhone app competes directly with similar innovations from across the sector, all vying for early market share in the mobile trading sub-niche.
